PSB Regional Championship

1. The Pakistan Spelling Bee (PSB) Regional Championships will be held in multiple cities across Pakistan.
2. Major cities like Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad may have multiple regions (Region 1, Region 2, etc), where regional championships will be held.
3. Regional Championships will have three rounds (Rounds 1, 2 and 3), which will be held at the same regional center on the same day.
4. Teams will compete within their grade category. That is, a Grade 5 team will only compete with other Grade 5 teams.
5. After Round 2, the top 3 teams from each grade, with a cumulative score of 16 or above, will qualify for Round 3 (See Competition Rules).
6. Each team will be asked the spelling of 10 (ten) words per round. In addition to the words from the official word lists, students will also be asked the spellings of words from a hidden list.
7. In both Rounds 1 and 2 of the PSB Regional Championships, 7 (seven) words will be from the official list, and 3 (three) words from the hidden list.
8. In Round 3 of the PSB Regional Championships, every third word will be from the hidden list.
9. In the event of a tie between teams, the teams having the tie will play a round of SpellTok, a word game (for the English language competition), and Hijjay, a word game (for the Urdu language competition), to determine the winner. If the tie remains, more rounds will be played until the tie is resolved.
10. The score of the tie breaker round(s) will not be counted towards a team’s cumulative score.
11. The competition will be conducted in accordance with the PSB Competition Rules for English and Urdu language competitions.
12. In Round 3 of the PSB Regional Championship, the top 3 teams from each grade will compete for first, second and third place in front of an audience, and will receive certificates and medals as follows:

13. All PSB Regional Championship winners (gold, silver and bronze medalists) are eligible to participate in the Pakistan Spelling Bee National Championship upon the payment of a separate registration fee. The Pakistan Spelling Bee administration may, at its discretion, reduce or waive the fee for students from underserved schools on a case by case basis.
